Mystery: 25 cows die in a pasture in Oakford, Perth

An investigation is underway after a herd of cattle was found dead in a semi-rural pasture.

A local woman came across the gruesome discovery while driving past a property in Oakford, in Perth’s southern suburbs, to feed her horses and contacted authorities.

In a video posted on social media, the woman said one of the 25 dead cows had been lying on a pile of wood since Sunday.

The owner of the property was reported to be away but his son told Seven News the cows had suffered from pneumonia.

Due to the recent wet weather, the dead cows could not be collected and buried, the son added.

The RSPCA A full investigation will be conducted to determine exactly what killed the cattle.

RSPCA investigators were seen at the scene inspecting the dead cattle on Tuesday.

According to Meat and Livestock Australia, pneumonia in cattle is most often linked to bovine respiratory disease, the most common cause of illness and death in feedlot cattle.

To treat cattle with pneumonia, it is recommended that Affected animals should be isolated in a well-ventilated area and protected from excessive heat or cold.

It is also important to maintain hydration, provide easy access to water and feed, while minimizing physical stress on the animal.

Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory treatment can help recovery.
