A pregnant woman is at war with her mother-in-law over the name she chose for her baby.
The mom-to-be recently had dinner with her husband’s family, where she finally decided to reveal the name and sex of her baby.
She had kept the information a secret, but wanted to share her joy when she was just weeks away from giving birth to her son, Shawn.
But when she shared the happy news, her mother-in-law turned pale with surprise and demanded that she choose another name for her baby.
A pregnant woman has entered into a furious conflict with her mother-in-law
‘My in-laws were silent for a moment before asking if there were any other options we had considered. Apparently, Shawn is the name of my 17-year-old sister-in-law Ashley’s former bully who tormented her. [for years]”the pregnant woman wrote on Reddit.
She shared that while she sympathized, her husband found it difficult to agree on the baby’s name.
“It took us forever to pick a name,” he said. “Shawn is the only one we can agree on.”
Dinner quickly turned sour and ended soon after.
But the mother-in-law did not give up.
“She texted my husband and I again asking us to find a new name for Ashley’s sake.
‘Would I be the idiot for not wanting to change it? We were only able to reach an agreement a few weeks ago.’
She also revealed that they didn’t know the name of Ashley’s bully until dinner, and that they didn’t choose the name out of malice.
Many were stunned that the couple couldn’t find enough compassion to choose another name.
“Shawn is not a unique and beautiful name,” said one. ‘He’s in the same category as Ryan, Taylor, Kevin, Drew. It’s okay to find something more basic and generic.’
Another said: “I understand the difficulty of finding a name that suits me, but for me, after knowing this, Shawn would quickly become another name that didn’t work.” We only decided a few weeks ago, so he would just go back to the drawing board.’
But others blamed the mother-in-law for demanding the change.
‘My spouse and my brother have the same name. You kind of just compartmentalize it,” one shared.
“I feel like if a new baby in my family shared my stalker’s name, I would just adapt,” another wrote. ‘TOAfter all, Shawn is a VERY common name, so I can’t get scared every time I hear it and survive in this world.’
