A woman has spoken out about her insecurity after hearing her husband criticise the women he sees on television.

In an interview with British parenting platform Mumsnet, the woman explained that her partner, 57, only criticises women, but never men.

She added that he often comments on how “old” or “chubby” someone is, which has made her more “conscious and scared of the aging process.”

The 50-year-old woman asked on the forum whether she is “too sensitive” and whether other people’s husbands behave like this.

Her comments sparked a lengthy discussion, with some calling the woman’s husband “sexist” and one even calling him a “nasty old man.”

The post Read: ‘I’ve always looked very young for my age, but as I approach 50, I can see that this is starting to take its toll on me!

‘I am seven years younger than my husband. I have noticed that he criticizes women on television (never men) for their appearance, weight, etc.

“Last night[she said]’Who’s that fat old lady?’ This morning she said, ‘God, she looks old,'” referring to Susanna Reid, who, by the way, looks fantastic!

She added: “He’s not one to think before he speaks, but lately I’ve noticed he’s made me more aware and fearful of the ageing process. I’m even considering getting Botox!”

“The other day I put on a new shirt and he said something like, ‘Wow, that makes you look younger.’ Am I being overly sensitive? Do other husbands do this? Do they just think it and not say it?”

Many women said their husbands never commented on other women and said their partner was “misogynistic and rude.”

One person said: “Sadly, I’m guessing most men your husband’s age or older are like this. Hopefully this attitude will go away with them, but in the meantime it’s very tedious and frustrating to have to constantly berate them.”

Another said: “It’s amazing how unattractive men feel being in a position to criticise the looks of often very attractive women. I don’t know where they get the confidence to do this but it’s ridiculous and pathetic.”

Someone else wrote: ‘Forget Botox unless you want it for yourself. I wonder about your marriage though.

“I can’t imagine my husband in a million years speaking in such an ugly and shallow manner about women, or any man he knows. Don’t think this is normal, OP, it really isn’t.

“Decent men don’t talk like that, it’s really ugly and unattractive. Are children listening to this misogynistic bile?”

Others suggested that she should start commenting on men’s appearance in front of her husband to give him a taste of his own medicine.

One person said: ‘This is everyday sexism that plagues us all, but when we call it out we get told off for overreacting to the little things.

‘So if I were you, OP, I’d say “stop with the sexist bullshit” every time. And then I’d start criticizing men who look even a little like your husband. If they look old, flabby, tired, worn out, out of date, why do I have to put them on my TV…?’

Another said: “No, he’s not normal. He sounds like a disgusting sexist pig. I’d be tempted to start making similar comments about men on TV, especially about their age or body shape. When he questions him, point out that you’re just doing the same thing as him.”

“If you really want Botox, get it (even though I personally think it’s ridiculous), but please don’t do it for him.”

Someone else said: ‘My immediate response to this would be to start criticising men on TV and see what they say, then you can shoot them with both barrels, always a really fun thing to do.’

A fourth agreed, adding: “He just turns the tables and starts making derogatory comments. If he can do it, so can you.”

‘A comment like, “Wow, that Tom Cruise guy is starting to look older, isn’t he?” or “You look a bit like that guy from the funeral plan ad” wouldn’t hurt.’
