Oprah Winfrey awkwardly interrupted Meghan Markle’s speech at a bookstore opening in Montecito last weekend when she appeared to be late to the exclusive event to take her seat.
Journalist Elizabeth Holmes captured the moment the TV mogul stepped in front of her camera as she attempted to record Meghan’s speech at the grand opening of Godmothers in the picturesque town of Santa Barbara.
In the clip, which Elizabeth shared on InstagramMeghan stood on a small stage and recalled the “safe” feeling she feels when in a bookstore, when her neighbor Oprah walked into the room to take a seat in the front row.
Speaking about the incident on her Instagram Stories, Elizabeth said: ‘Meghan had just started talking and I was really focused on filming that and Oprah was very discreet so she was in the green room getting ready for her panel and then she sat down while Meghan was talking.
“She came so quietly that I didn’t even notice. I was sitting there filming, just concentrating on what I was doing, and all of a sudden I was like Oprah, and she was like, ‘I’m sorry,’ and I was like, ‘No, you never have to say you’re sorry. ‘ It was surreal.”

“Oprah was in the green room, getting ready for her part of the show, and she was sitting there while Meghan was speaking. She walked in so quietly that I didn’t realize it was her until she was right in front of me. How surreal!”
Meghan and Prince Harry enjoyed an evening with ‘friends and family’ including literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh and cosmetics star Victoria Jackson, who are the owners of the local Montecito Community Bookstore.
Town and Country Magazine The royal couple reportedly arrived in a “blacked-out Range Rover” and warmly greeted fellow guests at the venue.
After Jennifer and Victoria shared a few brief words with their intimate audience, Meghan, 43, who was wearing a chic Ralph Lauren top and matching white pants, was heard yelling “Woo!”
Photos from the event show a smiling and glamorous Duchess hugging the talk show host, who interviewed them for their explosive 2021 broadcast.
Other images from the evening show a delighted Harry and Meghan posing outside the bookstore with its founders.
Elsewhere, when asked to recommend a book, the Prince reportedly jokingly pointed to a copy of his memoirs, Spare.
Victoria, who has been close to the royal couple since their arrival in California four years ago, said: “To see them be able to come here and be in a safe space… that’s what we want it to be.”

The outlet also revealed that Prince Harry, 39, played a role in choosing the bookstore’s name, as at his own book party in Beverly Hills, he thanked Oprah, Victoria and Jennifer for being his “fairy godmothers.”
It is no surprise then that Spare is proudly and boldly displayed in the shop, alongside his wife’s children’s book, The Bench.

The Duchess of Sussex opted for an elegant look as she attended the event at Godmothers Bookstore.

Harry and Meghan’s friendship appears to have blossomed when they extended their wedding invitation to Oprah to include the evening reception at Frogmore House, which was attended by only their closest family and friends.

To add height to her elegant look, Meghan wore her Jimmy Choo Etana 50mm sandals in tan and tortoiseshell.
Town and Country magazine revealed that Meghan thanked Jennifer and Victoria “not only for creating the space, but for holding the space for so many people to feel seen through the pages, whether it’s in laughter, in pain, in feeling less alone.”
However, like her close friend Oprah, the Duchess had to leave the “amazing” event early because she had to “make dinner for the kids.”
Speaking about the godmothers on her Instagram, Jennifer said: “I love it. People come here and the phrase we hear over and over again is ‘I don’t know why, but this makes me cry.'”
‘And that makes me want to cry because I know why, because we put so much love and intention into everything.
“It’s like when you take a bite of a cake and you wonder why it’s so delicious. Is it the butter? Well, the butter is the love in this and it’s buttery and delicious.
“And people are feeling that and they feel like they’ve found a home away from home.”
