Mrs. Bojo’s G7 Hire: Canny Carrie Johnson’s Wardrobe Hire to Make a Splash at the Cornish World Summit…and No Donor Loans Required!
There is a new First Lady in town.
Despite being, at 33, the youngest husband at the G7 summit next week — and certainly the most recently married, as she only sealed the deal with Boris over the weekend — Ms. Johnson’s new outfit choice revealed yesterday. was delivered to No. 10, a level of intent beyond her years and experience.
The dresses she’s reportedly picking to wrap in tissues for her debut on the world stage in Cornwall show that Carrie is fully committed to taking over from the Duchess of Cambridge as the best-dressed ad for Team GB you’ll ever see. will meet.
Because Carrie hasn’t just picked some of Kate’s most beloved labels – LK Bennett, Alessandra Rich, The Vampire’s Wife (Kate wore an emerald green version of the metallic dress shown here). She recently found the confidence to steal Kate’s silhouette: slim and feminine with a high neckline, fuzzy shoulders and a mid-length skirt.
In the bag: delivered to number 10 yesterday
It could all be a little stiff were it not for the high-end labels, expensive fabrics that don’t wrinkle and, of course, Carrie’s youth. This kind of floral, flowy fashion only really suits young people. This is luxurious boho.
Etro is the Italian label loved by lunchtime ladies and is just as far removed from the buttoned-up, fitted two-pieces we’ve come to expect from the other First Ladies.
This being loose and this fluid takes a lot of confidence. Not only that, many of these pieces (like Carrie’s wedding dress) are likely to be rented – if our spies are right, two collections from clothing rental companies My Wardrobe HQ and Hurr Collective were delivered on Wednesday and Thursday. They are also so unashamedly girlish.
Hell, one of the dresses is even patchwork, like something from Little House On The Prairie, showing how much Carrie wants to lighten the mood and have fun.
Some may point to the absence of High Street stalwarts, but I applaud Carrie’s refusal, knowing the eyes of the world will be on her.
There are a few questionable choices: I’m not thrilled with the animal print. But everything else is vibrant and fresh. Carrie has always favored colorful printed tea dresses over pants and skirt suits: they put people at ease and belie the swatch underneath. Because Carrie has a job to do here, and an important one.
Weighed: more dresses for Carrie
While her husband (I wonder if she’s used to calling him that?) focuses on the key G7 conversations, it will be Carrie’s job to forge personal bonds with the leaders’ husbands. She will host a series of events to entertain and keep them entertained.
Special attention will be given to how well Ms Johnson interacts with Jill Biden, another G7 novice. Boris hopes the UK’s cherished ‘special relationship’ with the US will help him negotiate a post-Brexit trade deal with Mr Biden soon.
I bet Carrie didn’t even hire a stylist to put this little lot together, that’s how clear she is about the image she wants to convey and her job.
A printed dress is so easy to put on that your brain is free for more important things. Only the Dolce is sleeveless, which means she can even swing without fear of a less flattering photo. Just like the princess she is so obvious.
