A desperate rescue mission is underway for two people trapped underground after a mine collapsed.

Victorian Police confirmed they are responding to reports of two people trapped inside the Indicator Lane site at Mount Clear, Ballarat, after the gold mine collapsed at about 10am. 16.50 Wednesday.

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) and the Country Fire Authority have both sent ‘resources’ to the scene, an FRV spokesman told Daily Mail Australia.

Ambulance Victoria has also arrived at the collapse but has ‘no patients at this stage’.

‘The situation is evolving and further information will be provided as it becomes available,’ read a statement from Victoria Police.
