Police today named the victim as 31-year-old Samantha Mills from the Huddersfield area.

Mrs. Mills died in hospital on Friday after being rescued from a property in the Claire Hill area of ​​the city.

Police have since charged a 34-year-old man with arson.

Neighbors made desperate efforts to rescue those trapped by the flames and six victims were evacuated from the building.

All six were taken to hospital, at least three of which were in a “ critical but stable condition ” over the past weekend.

Two people remain in hospital to date, West Yorkshire police have confirmed.

The incident took place two hours after police arrested a man on charges of sexual assault at an address nearby in the early hours of Tuesday.

West Yorkshire Police said at the time: ‘At 3.52 a.m. on Tuesday, the police received a report of an attack on an address in Clare Hill, Huddersfield.

Officers were on hand and made inquiries to locate the suspect. A 35-year-old man was arrested a short time later in connection with the incident.

Police say Craig Collier, 34, of Clare Hill, has been charged with arson with the intent of endangering life and disrupting justice.

He was taken into custody in Leeds to appear before Bradford Magistrates’ Court on Friday 23 April.

The ambulance service said, “We received an emergency call this morning at 6:06 am to fire and rescue colleagues due to reports of a property fire in Clare Hill, Huddersfield.

“We dispatched six ambulances, our Hazardous Area Response Team, two managers and two clinical supervisors to the scene, and six patients were taken to the hospital.”
