A 37-year-old woman has been found dead on a road in Far North Queensland in a suspected hit-and-run incident.

A passing motorist spotted the woman on Junction Road in Mossman, near Port Douglas in Far North Queensland, at 6.27pm on Wednesday.

First responders performed CPR, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman has been identified as a Mossman local.

“Initial investigations indicate the woman was struck by a vehicle, which did not remain at the scene,” Queensland Police said in a statement.

Investigators urged anyone who may have traveled through the area between 6:15 p.m. and 6:40 p.m. to contact Crime Stoppers.

“Forensic Crash Unit officers are also appealing for the driver involved in the incident or anyone with further information to contact police,” Queensland Police said.
