Signing off: Microsoft has resigned from its observer role on the OpenAI board
Microsoft has resigned from its role on OpenAI’s board of directors as regulators crack down on Big Tech’s influence.
The US group, which has invested £10bn in AI chatbot maker ChatGPT, said: “We no longer believe our limited role as observers is necessary.”
Apple was expected to take a similar position, but has reportedly scrapped those plans as regulators on both sides of the Atlantic have raised concerns about Silicon Valley’s growing influence in the rise of AI.
OpenAI’s massive popularity has the potential to generate billions for creators and investors.
