AI boom: TSMC supplies semiconductor chips to companies including Apple and Nvidia
The world’s largest chipmaker, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co, reported a surge in revenue as it capitalized on the rise of artificial intelligence.
The group, which supplies semiconductor chips to companies including Apple and Nvidia, raised 16 billion pounds in the three months to the end of June, up 33 percent from a year earlier.
Asia’s most valuable listed company, with a market capitalisation of around £650bn, briefly passed the $1trn (£780bn) mark this week.
Listed in Taiwan and New York, it makes semiconductors that companies like Nvidia rely on to develop artificial intelligence computing technology.
Nvidia itself has seen a massive surge in value. In February, it was the fastest company to reach $1 trillion in value.
