Former Manchester City defender Micah Richards has labeled his only penalty kick as ‘the worst penalty you’ve ever seen’.
The right-back stepped up to the spot in an eventual shoot-out defeat to Greece’s Olympiakos in America in the 2014 International Champions Cup, after the game ended 2-2.
Richards decided to channel his inner Chris Waddle and sprinted for the ball before hurling it into orbit from 40 feet.

The 33-year-old has now embarked on his only ever sentence on MOTD Top 10 Podcast with Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer as they look through the Premier League’s best players.
When asked if he’s ever taken a penalty, Richards said: “Not in a real game, in a pre-season. It was the worst penalty you’ve ever seen.

‘In training you know that training is different.’ Before Lineker interrupted him to say, “It’s like being on the course at golf.”
To which Richards replied, “Stanch, to get them in trouble. (Manuel) Pellegrini was the manager.
“So then we were in preparation, we were playing against someone in Greece.
“He goes to me ‘you’re awake’, I said, ‘what do you mean, I’m awake’?”
“I said, I’m not going to take any, and he said, ‘Go on, you’ve been practicing all week, you’re really good at it.’ So I got up, didn’t I?

“I walked forward because I don’t know how to act for a penalty, you can’t be shy, but you can’t, I was too confident.
‘You are playing brain games. So how shall I act?
‘Will I be the confident Big Meeks? Or will I be the shy Micah?
‘You know what I mean? So I thought, “Okay, let’s play the part of Big Meeks”
‘I walk upstairs, chest out. “I’ll put you in the stands.”
“I don’t think I’m going to just roll it in, I tried to put the stanch in and just like I got, no cramping, it was like nervous energy through my legs and I hit it and it was about five or six feet over the bar.’
