MEGHAN MCCAIN: Democrats want to dump Biden like the Brits Tories dumped Liz Truss

Conservatives in the UK have dumped their prime minister. Democrats in the US should be jealous. They would also throw Joe Biden over the railing – if they could.

For Americans watching from home, here are the cliff notes on British politics.

Prime Minister Liz Truss held a disastrously short 44 days in office, the shortest period for a Prime Minister in British history. And the world finds American politics embarrassing.

In American political terminology she took 4.1 ‘Scaramucci’s’.

That, of course, is Anthony Scaramucci. He comically survived less than two weeks as President Donald Trump’s press secretary before getting the hook.

In a nutshell, Truss pushed for a low-tax, high-spending agenda. The markets were shocked and the British pound plummeted.

Truss folded – as they say – like a cheap suit. She backed off from her plan and fired her advisers, but that didn’t help.

On Wednesday evening, her party made it clear that it had no confidence in its leadership and resigned.

What failed to make the headlines is that the Democratic party has kept its own stunning “no confidence” vote in President Joe Biden. And the president is very sensitive to that.

Conservatives in the UK have dumped their prime minister. Democrats in the US should be jealous. They would also throw Joe Biden over the railing – if they could.

Let me explain… clearly the electoral system in the UK and US is different.

In the US, the people elect the president and then – for better or for worse – we’re stuck with him for four years.

But halfway through the president’s term, there’s something called the midterms. They are important.

The midterm elections can make or break a presidency and this year they are particularly important as Republicans are poised to take control of the House and possibly the Senate.

You’d think Biden would be hard at work on the campaign trail, shaking hands and kissing babies in an effort to excite Democratic voters and pull his candidates across the finish line.

But Joe Biden is nowhere to be seen. Hmm… why is that?

Even the folks at the New York Times were affected by this.

‘Mr. Biden has not held a campaign rally since before Labor Day, even as the future of his agenda and his own political career are at stake in the midterm elections,” the NYTimes wrote.

“…It’s a remarkably low-key campaign effort from a president facing what could be one of the greatest rebukes of his political life.”

Instead, former President Obama is campaigning in Atlanta, Detroit, Milwaukee and Las Vegas — cities in critical condition that Democrats desperately want to hold on to.

Biden will be in Pennsylvania on Thursday to lend Senate candidate John Fetterman a hand. But there won’t be a big rally where Biden and Fetterman hug each other in front of a huge crowd of supporters.

Biden will deliver a speech on infrastructure and then talk to invitees in a closed reception. Exciting!

A reporter asked Biden about this abnormal mid-term campaign schedule as he left the White House on Thursday, and he didn’t like it at all.

The reporter said, “There haven’t been that many candidates campaigning with you…” before Biden silenced her.

“That’s not true,” he snapped. “There have been 15. Count, boy, count.’

Sensitive, sensitive.

Look, we all know that President Biden is unpopular, very unpopular. But he is no less popular than Obama or Trump this time in their presidency.

But, as the New York Times notes, Trump held 26 demonstrations in October 2018 and 16 campaign rallies in October 2010.

It’s obvious what’s going on here.

Biden gets the Liz Truss treatment. Democrats don’t trust him as their party leader. In fact, they want to stay as far away from him as possible.

What is it about Biden that the Democrats can’t bear? Well, there are a few things.

First, even his staff isn’t confident in letting him speak off-the-cuff or off-the-teleprompter for that matter.

Prime Minister Liz Truss held a disastrously short 44 days in office, the shortest period for a Prime Minister in British history. And the world finds American politics embarrassing.

Remember when a staffer in an Easter Bunny costume led him away from a crowd at the White House? Or when we called out a deceased congressman at a public event?

His blunders are getting weirder and worse.

We can’t look away and pretend nothing is wrong when he says his beloved son died in Iraq, when Beau died of cancer at home in America.

Second, President Biden and his administration have made it clear that they hate half the country.

Do you remember his doomsday speech in Philadelphia?

That’s not a great closing message if you’re trying to win over convincing voters.

Biden has made it clear how dangerous and abhorrent he thinks “MAGA Republicans” are.

Except Biden himself won the 2020 election, in part because he was able to reach the American workers, who voted for Obama in 2012 but went for Trump in 2016.

There are many such voters in places like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Georgia.

Now Biden has completely thrown any possibility of that out the window.

What’s the point of sending him into a swing state? The chance of an embarrassing situation is quite high.

Finally, he has proved that he is completely oblivious to the concerns of the average American voter.

“Our economy is as strong as hell,” he told reporters last week as he munched on an ice cream cone in Oregon. What?

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos warns Americans to “slam the shutters” while he and nearly all US business leaders warn that the country is headed for a recession.

Inflation has spiraled out of control and wages are not keeping up with rising costs. There is a lower percentage of Americans in the workforce today than before the pandemic. Mortgage rates are skyrocketing and housing markets are plummeting. The stock market is a rollercoaster ride out of hell and Americans watch their 401ks languish, but chocolate chip is delicious.

On Thursday, Biden is in Pennsylvania (above) to lend a helping hand to Senate candidate John Fetterman. But there won’t be a big rally where Biden and Fetterman hug each other in front of a huge crowd of supporters.

Rather than face the harsh, brutal reality and come up with logical solutions, Biden and his White House press secretary “Baghdad Bob” continue to freak out instead of being honest with the American public.

Democrats can’t dump their president as quickly as British Conservatives can dump a prime minister, but it’s not because they haven’t tried.

If the upcoming midterm elections are as catastrophic for Biden and Democrats as speculated, it will be the final nail in the coffin for Biden’s leadership. The piranhas will definitely come out, just like they did for Liz Truss.

The media and politics give as fast as takeaway and no one will want to be associated with a presidency seen as a historic failure and in decline. Politicians will do more to save their party from within and distance themselves from Biden as much as possible. The press will become more aggressive and will no longer hide its blunders. Progressive Democrats will revel in blaming Biden for not being progressive enough.

Oh boy, it’s gonna be ugly. If you want a friend in politics, get a dog.

Actually, it seems like Liz Truss has chosen the easy way. Her political death was rapid. Biden has two more years of this.
