McDonald’s has been criticized by fans for “recycling” old menu items after the fast food giant unveiled its updated summer menu, which includes a number of familiar additions.

McDonald’s UK and Ireland will launch its new summer menu on May 29, but the announcement has already sparked criticism for what some customers perceive as a lack of innovation.

The new menu features an all-new burger, The Hat Trick Burger, which features three beef patties, two slices of cheese, grilled onions, mustard and ketchup on a sesame seed-glazed bun.

However, the excitement around the new item has been tempered by the fact that many summer menu items are repeats of old favorites.

The McDonald’s Chicken Sharebox, 9 Chicken Select Sharebox and Mozzarella Bites with a rich tomato sauce are making a comeback.

Plus, fan favorites like Galaxy Caramel McFlurry, Galaxy Chocolate and Raspberry Pie, and Iced Latte are also returning.

The fast food chain also launched an unexpected new item, Skittles McFlurry; However, the colorful twist on the classic dessert has already received mixed reviews from fans, who criticized the latest addition as “awful.”

Dozens of fans took to Instagram to complain about the updated menu after @newfoodsuk announced the new line in a mail on May 21.

One disappointed fan wrote: “The Pie & McFlurry sounds horrible,” while another said: “Chocolate pies are the worst thing I’ve ever tasted.”

Others criticized the new McFlurry flavour, with one writing: “That Skittles McFlurry needs to be thrown out ASAP,” while another said: “A Skittles McFlurry is tragic.”

A third wrote: ‘You’re curious about Skittles McFlurry, wouldn’t they freeze hard, like fruit bullets on your teeth?’ Galaxy Raspberry cake sounds good…cherry would have been better, just saying.

But one Instagram user, who claims to have “private” knowledge about the true ingredients behind the new dessert, responded: “Hey buddy, I’ve got some inside information: it’s Skittles fudge.”

Several fans criticized McDonald’s for its seemingly boring new burger, with one commenting: “Isn’t it just a triple cheeseburger?”, while another said: “Isn’t the burger just a triple quarter pounder?”

Meanwhile, a McDonald’s worker has revealed why customers should never order from the chain’s McCafé machines.

The staff member claimed in a comment unearthed on Reddit that the machines are “routinely neglected” as employees are not trained to clean them properly, meaning the insides are often filled with “black soot.”

A viral TikTok video, with more than two million views, reposted the comment and dozens of people asked fast food workers which customers should never order at their restaurant.

The 31-response slideshow features three responses from McDonald’s workers.

“I work for McDonald’s and I make sure everyone I care about never orders anything that comes out of the ‘McCafe’ machine as they are routinely neglected,” one user wrote in the post shared by @webaddieshere.
