But while many were saddened to see Jonathan, 29, get the cut for the Channel 10 series, most were left baffled by the shocking promo for Monday night’s episode.

When the carpenter came out, the show released a bizarre promo that left viewers scratching their heads as it mocked the “mystery box babies.”

The prologue was when Jonathan bid farewell to the show after his grandmother’s beef ragout pappardelle recipe failed to impress the judges.

He found himself facing elimination alongside Harry, 29, who served his own grandmother’s ravioli, but Jonathan ultimately made the cut.

“I don’t think my journey on MasterChef will ever end,” Jonathan said as he walked away, warming the hearts of viewers.

But things took a strange turn when the episode began airing a promo for Monday night’s episode teasing a mystery box challenge.

‘Tomorrow night on MasterChef Australia, what will happen when a mystery box has babies?’ stated the voiceover at a strange moment.

Clips of the boxes in question were broadcast, along with the contestants’ surprised reactions, but no further explanation was given for the “babies” comment.

The Mystery Box Challenge is a staple of the MasterChef franchise in which contestants are forced to create a meal on the fly using a box of mystery ingredients.

‘I’m not going to lie, when they first said in the promotion of #MasterChefAU. “When a mystery box has babies…” I thought, “Why did they put BABIES in the box?” said another.
