Mariah Carey had “no contact” with her older sister Alison Carey before her shocking passing on the same day as her mother Patricia’s death.
The Fantasy singer, 55, released a heartbreaking statement on Monday announcing the deaths of her brother, 63, and mother, 87, saying her “heart is broken.”
Sources said TMZ on Tuesday that the Grammy winner did not communicate with Alison before her passing, and instead was by his mother’s side in the week leading up to her death.
The sisters’ estrangement was caused by Alison’s years-long battle with drug addiction, sources told the outlet.
After many attempts to help her sister, Mariah made the decision to cut Alison out of her life so as not to be an “enabler” and put distance between them.

On Monday, Mariah said in a statement to People“I am heartbroken to have lost my mother last weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day.”
‘I feel blessed to have been able to spend the last week with my mom before she passed away.’
In closing, the musical artist added: “I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time.”
The cause of death for her sister and mother has not yet been revealed. However, Alison’s close friend Dave Barker said The US Sun that Alison “was receiving palliative care at home for the last three weeks of her life.”
She was having problems with her ‘internal organs’ and Barker added: ‘I’ve known her for nine years and as her friend and in recent months her carer, I will miss her very much…’
Carey had a strained relationship with her mother, Patricia, as well as her sister Alison, from whom she later became estranged.
The star also has a brother, Morgan Carey, 64, and her opera singer father Alfred died in 2002 at the age of 72. Mariah’s parents split up when she was three.
Mariah said in her 2020 memoir, The Meaning of Mariah Carey, that after extensive therapy, she decided to stop having contact with Alison and Morgan.

“When I was 12, my sister drugged me with Valium, offered me a pinky nail full of cocaine… and tried to sell me to a pimp,” Mariah said. “Something in me stopped because of all that trauma. That’s why I often say, ‘I’m eternally 12.’ I’m still struggling to get over that moment.”

After her father’s death, Alison inherited a million dollars, but she was not financially prudent with the money.
Alison returned to prostitution “around the time the money ran out,” a source told the outlet.
In March 2016, Alison filmed a video published by Dailymail.com in which she asked her famous brother for financial help following the 2015 attack that left her injured.
She said, “Mariah, I love you. I desperately need your help. Please don’t leave me like this.”
