Manchester United ‘interested’ in rival Arsenal for Ajax player of the season Lisandro Martinez… with the Dutch champions demanding £30million for the versatile defender who praised Erik ten Hag as an ‘excellent player’
- Man United are reportedly fond of Ajax player of the season Lisandro Martinez
- Incoming United boss Erik ten Hag made Martinez a permanent fixture with the Dutch giants
- Arsenal would have spoken with Ajax about the left-footed defender of 30 million pounds
- Ten Hag used Martinez as a central defender, left back and in midfield at Ajax
Manchester United are set to rival Arsenal for Ajax player of the season Lisandro Martinez, a report said.
Ajax wants around £30million for Martinez, who was signed in 2019 by Ten Hag of Argentina’s Defensa y Justicia and was already the subject of a failed £25million bid from the Gunners.
United are interested in Martinez but are not prioritizing his position due to the number of central defenders they currently have, according to Sky Sports News.

Former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly interested in attracting Martinez for Man United
The outlet suggested that Ten Hag will not urgently seek new faces in central defence, while Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly are all on the books at Old Trafford.
Martinez, also known as ‘The Butcher of Amsterdam’, helped Ajax to the Eredivisie title last season as part of a miserly defense that conceded just 19 goals in 34 games.
The 24-year-old was used as a central defender throughout the season, but Ten Hag was impressed by his versatility as he played as a fullback on both flanks and as a central midfielder after his arrival in Amsterdam.
Martinez signed a two-year extension to his Ajax contract in 2021, committing himself until 2025 after becoming the second Argentine after Nicolas Tagliafico to reach 100 appearances for the club.

Martinez, an Argentine debutant in 2019, was part of the squad that won the Finalissima against Italy at Wembley earlier this month, playing 62 minutes as central defender of his country’s subsequent 5-0 goal against Estonia.
After agreeing new terms, Martinez said: “I’ve grown a lot here. I’ve become a much stronger and smarter player here, and calmer on the ball.’
Ten Hag, who officially takes over from United, predicted that shortly after signing him Martinez would become a fixture to provide competition for Daley Blind, Tagliafico and Ryan Gravenberch.
Ten Hag said at the time: ‘I think Lisandro Martínez is an excellent player. He is actually starting material and that is why I talk to him a lot.’
