MAFS: Dan Hunjas says experts should be ‘accountable’ for mismatching couples

Furious MAFS groom Dan Hunjas lashes out at the pundits for pairing him with Sandy Jawanda, knowing she ‘doesn’t like the beach’

MAFS star Dan Hunjas says the show’s producers and relationship experts should be held accountable for “intentionally” mismatching couples for drama.

The 42-year-old beach-loving entrepreneur is convinced he became attached after being paired with a woman who can’t stand the ocean and is allergic to salt water.

After breaking up with his wife Sandy Jawanda, 36, at Sunday’s commitment ceremony, Dan was determined when he spoke Fitzy & Wippa on Monday about his experience on the Channel Nine show.

“I think the experts have a big responsibility to take on this,” he told Nova FM presenters Ryan “Fitzy” Fitzgerald and Michael “Wippa” Wipfli.

‘I don’t think it’s fair. It was a deliberate mismatch.’

He continued, “I came to the experiment for all the right reasons until I found out we weren’t right for each other for all the wrong reasons — for drama and entertainment.”

And I think that was very disappointing — especially for Sandy, who had given up so much and gone against her family and community and put so much on the line.

“I thought that was extremely unfair.”

Dan didn’t specify how he knew for sure that the experts had “deliberately not sought him and Sandy together,” nor did he take any personal responsibility for things that didn’t work between them.

When Fitzy told him he should have known better than to trust a TV dating show to make decisions with his best interests in mind, Dan pleaded ignorance.

“I don’t watch TV,” he said.

Dan and Sandy (right) finally called it quits at Sunday's commitment ceremony. The pundits made it clear that they sided with Sandy in the breakup, with John Aiken saying he didn't believe Dan's excuse that his wife's distaste for the beach was an insurmountable obstacle in their relationship.

When asked if he regretted going on MAFS, Dan replied, “Listen, considering the match Sandy and I were, it wasn’t the best[experience].”

Dan and Sandy finally called it quits at the commitment ceremony on Sunday.

After weeks of clashing heads and Dan’s extended absence, they both agreed it was time to leave the social experiment.

The pundits and other couples made it clear that they sided with Sandy in the breakup, with John Aiken saying he didn’t believe Dan’s excuse that his wife’s aversion to the beach was an insurmountable obstacle in their relationship.

“One of the big things for me is my love of the beach and the ocean,” said Dan, adding that the ocean is his spiritual home.

After hearing this for the hundredth time, John reminded him, “An important ingredient for a healthy relationship is not a love of the ocean.”
