Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara is reportedly facing another dismissal after suffering a muscle injury during his five-minute cameo against Arsenal.

The former Spain international, 32, came off the bench at the Emirates Stadium to play his first football in 10 months after a hip problem.

But according to The timesThiago suffered a new setback during that brief appearance to deal another blow to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Thiago is in the final months of his contract with Liverpool, but Klopp was hoping to draw on the midfielder’s experience as they compete in the Premier League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup final and Europa League in the coming weeks.

Before Sunday, Thiago’s last appearance for Liverpool was in the 2-1 Premier League win over West Ham on April 26 last year.

Liverpool have been dealt a further blow after midfielder Thiago Alcantara suffered a muscle injury during a five-minute cameo after 10 months out with a hip problem.

It is unknown how long Thiago will be sidelined, but it comes ahead of a series of decisive games for Liverpool, who are two points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

They will hope to get back on track after their defeat to Arsenal when they host Burnley on Saturday before games against Brentford and Luton.

The Reds will then face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on February 25 before hosting Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round on February 28.

Thiago joins midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai and forward Mohamed Salah on the treatment table. Both have hamstring injuries.

However, Klopp will be boosted by the return of Japanese midfielder Wataru Endo following their exit from the Asian Cup.

Andy Robertson could get his first start against Burnley since returning from a shoulder dislocation suffered playing for Scotland in October.

With Ibrahima Konate suspended after being sent off for two bookings against Arsenal, Robertson could return at left-back with Joe Gomez moving alongside Virgil van Dijk in central defence.

The event will be a setback for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
