Mike Pence, Donald Trump’s vice president, has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission to launch his candidacy for president, joining a crowded field of Republicans vying for Trump for the party’s 2024 nomination .
Pence, 63, was loyal to Trump in the White House for four years, but broke with the president when he rejected Trump’s attempts to reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Pence dislikes Trump’s most ardent supporters and is trailing far behind the former president in polls. The latest Real Clear Politics average shows Trump has the support of more than half of Republican voters nationwide, compared to just under 4 percent for Pence.
