The 36-year-old first took advantage of a pass from Robbie Taylor inside the area, before tapping his feet and slotting the ball in to make it 1-1.

Just over 20 minutes into the second half, the 65,000 New England crowd was left purring for Messi once again as he combined with Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets to put Miami in front.

Busquets highlighted his famous teammate with a perfect pass in the 67th minute, allowing him to slide the ball past Henrich Ravas and into the back of the net.
