A young woman from New York state was paralyzed and can only move her arms and communicate via text messages, after a singer at the concert she was attending tried to surf and landed on top of her.
Bird Piché, 24, fell to the ground as singer John Floreani of the Australian punk rock band Trophy Eyes jumped into the mosh pit at the concert in Buffalo.
Footage shared online shows the moment Floreani jumps into the crowd, a trick he often performs during concerts.
Although Piché can’t be seen in the footage, Floreani caught her during the stunt just minutes into the first song of the set that began at Buffalo’s Mohawk Place.
The show was immediately stopped and Floreani accompanied Piché in the ambulance to the hospital.

“The video is crazy because unless you knew someone was hurt in the video, you would never expect it.” As if it were a normal dive. The video I saw on Facebook and then another angle appeared on a Reddit thread, both seem pretty harmless,” said Wolter Tejera, a family friend. WGRZ.
But the dive was devastating and Piché suffered a catastrophic spinal cord injury and was forced to undergo extensive surgery.
“He has a long recovery ahead of him and will need all the help he can get. It is still too early to know what his prognosis is, but after leaving the hospital he will need to go to a rehabilitation center. Obviously he will not be able to work during this time,” he said. GoFundMe page explained, which has so far raised $53,000.
The fundraiser’s organizer, a close family friend, said the woman has already undergone “extensive surgery.”
‘It’s still too early to know what his prognosis is, but after he leaves the hospital he will have to go to a rehabilitation center. Obviously he won’t be able to work during this time.’
Her friend Tejera is still trying to understand how Piché was so seriously injured.

The band said in a statement that they were “truly heartbroken” by the incident, but decided to continue their U.S. tour in 2024 and made a $5,000 donation toward Piché’s medical expenses.
“He dove into the crowd and there probably weren’t enough people around to catch him, or they didn’t know he was going to jump. And that was it from then on,” Tejera explained.
‘A couple of people They said they thought he had passed out, so they went to get him a cold cloth. And then when they came back, they realized she was on the ground. She wouldn’t get up and John, the singer, was there with her. So yeah, they took her straight to the hospital for emergency trauma surgery and then she was admitted.

‘This situation has shaken us all to our core and we ask for patience as we seek to help Bird through this difficult time. Please keep Bird in your thoughts,” the statement said.
A commentator who claimed to be behind Piché as Floreani jumped off the stage said the singer was “clearly devastated” after realizing he had hurt her.
‘My partner and I were right next to her. As soon as we heard her say that she was scared and couldn’t move, we knew she wasn’t okay. “John was clearly devastated,” they wrote.
“Yeah, once the crowd went quiet and I heard her say, ‘I’m scared,’ I immediately knew what had happened wasn’t good,” another added.
