- It has a folding 13.3-inch screen that supports multitasking
- Lenovo promises considerably more durability than the Samsung Galaxy Fold
Lenovo shows participants of this year’s CES in Las Vegas an ambitious new laptop, which the company describes as “the first folding PC in the world.”
This device is called the ThinkPad X1 Fold and at first glance looks like a normal tablet with a 13.3-inch OLED screen.
In combination with an external Bluetooth magnetic keyboard and placed on its side with a built-in stand, the Fold can be used as a standard laptop.

Users can also literally bend the screen in two, either fold it up like a book, or bend it at a 90-degree angle.
When the screen is folded at a right angle, it can be used for multitasking, with one program running at the top and the other at the bottom.
For example, users can connect to a video meeting on the upright part of the screen while they have a spreadsheet or word processing document open in the lower half.
The fold also has a virtual keyboard that can be raised at any time if the external keyboard is not available.
Lenovo says the Fold will be sold for around $ 2500 and will be available by mid-2020, although an exact date has not yet been set.
The fold can also be used as a traditional laptop in combination with an external Bluetooth keyboard
The durable plastic screen actually consists of six different layers of plastic and metal brackets to make it both flexible and scratch-resistant
It uses Intel Core laptop processors, offers 8 GB of memory and supports optional 5G connectivity option.
The fold also comes with a leather folio cover to give it the appearance of a planner or personal notebook when it is folded in half.
The company has designed the device so that a small opening is just large enough to store the external Bluetooth keyboard when the device is closed.
Users can run individual programs on different sides of the screen when it is folded
The fold is designed around its own four-point hinge mechanism that flattens the screen when it is fully opened, so that the screen does not bubble or warp

The screen itself is actually a mix of six different layers of plastic and metal frame material, designed to make the screen both flexible and durable.
Lenovo says the screen has a hardness of 6H, a company representative said Gizmodo makes the device much more durable than the Samsung Galaxy Fold.
The fold is built around a four-point hinge system that connects two carbon fiber plates.
To prevent bulging or kinking of the screen, the hinge is designed to flatten both sides of the screen when it is fully extended.
Because of the unique thin housing, Lenovo has developed a modified cooling system that combines a thin fan, a heat sink and a heat diffuser.
The Fold has a battery life of 11 hours and weighs only 2.2 kilos.
