Rep. Lauren Boebert’s eldest son, Tyler, allegedly made a sex tape with one of his teenage accomplices in a series of vehicle and property burglaries in Colorado’s Republican district.
Police zeroed in on Tyler, 18, after a teenager helped identify him on store security footage, according to an affidavit seen by DailyMail.com.
The teen then told police that Tyler and an accomplice had recorded a sex video and that Tyler had sent it to another person in his age group. Tyler has not been charged with any crime in connection with the alleged sex tape.
Tyler is accused of breaking into and stealing from four vehicles, taking cash, gift cards, a social security card and credit cards, as well as driver’s licenses.
It is unclear which co-defendant Tyler allegedly made a sex tape with. His three co-defendants have only been described as a 16-year-old man, a 16-year-old woman and a 17-year-old woman.
While the age of consent is 17, the co-defendants have not been identified because they are all minors, resulting in charges of corruption of minors.
The teens allegedly used the cash to buy gas and food at a McDonald’s and a Kum and Go in Rifle, although the banks eventually began pushing back against the charges.
Tyler Boebert was arrested Wednesday in Rifle and faces more than 20 charges.
The lawmaker’s 18-year-old son faces nearly two dozen different charges in connection with a series of vehicle thefts and property thefts in Colorado’s Republican district.
The teens allegedly used the cash to buy gas and food at a McDonald’s and a Kum and Go in Rifle, although the banks eventually began pushing back against the charges. He is seen on the left on one of the store’s security cameras.
They also reportedly attempted to order $717 worth of merchandise from Shein.com, $175 from Kum and Go, and $10.95 from Starbucks.
An arrest affidavit states that Boebert was recognized on surveillance video at a gas station on Feb. 20 by a police officer in Rifle who was investigating a series of robberies and vehicle thefts.
The video shows Boebert wearing a hoodie from Shooters Bar and Grill, the restaurant formerly owned by her mother, while three accomplices, all minors, allegedly use a stolen credit card to get food.
In a summary of the incident, six victims are named, although their identities are also hidden, and the youngest is only three years old. The rest are between 18 and 32 years old.
Tyler appeared virtually in a Garfield County courtroom Wednesday from jail and was smiling and laughing as the hearing began, at which Deputy District Attorney Tony Hershey said his mother, the congresswoman, listened.
Magistrate Jill McConaughy set him on a $1,250 personal recognizance bond.
Hershey called her “activity and behavior” concerning and noted that Boebert failed to appear in court for a traffic case last year.
Boebert’s next court date has been set for April 11.
Local police cited the recent spate of vehicle break-ins and property thefts in the city, and the Rifle Police Department posted on its Facebook page Tuesday night that the investigation is ongoing.
Rep. Boebert still represents Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, but announced earlier this year that she would move her campaign to the state’s 4th District.
The lawmaker revealed last year that Tyler, then 17, was going to be a father, making her a grandmother at the age of just 36.
“Obviously, I’m a Christian and there are standards we like to uphold, but none of us do it perfectly,” she said when asked if teen pregnancy “challenged” any of her conservative beliefs.
“We can criticize what the Bible says is right and wrong, but I think just having that heart position of wanting to serve God is very important.”
The Boerberts in better times, with the couple’s four children, including Tyler (center, back row), who accused his father of physical abuse.
Boebert said her son should face the consequences, but she loves him and supports him.
The lawmaker was facing a tough rematch with Democrat Adam Frisch, but also said the move is to give her family a “fresh start” after a “pretty difficult year.”
Tuesday’s arrest is not the first time teenager Boebert, who shares a son with an ex-girlfriend, has faced controversy.
In April of last year, a friend alleged that an accident Tyler was driving in left him with multiple concussions and a debilitating hand injury.
Rep. Boebert, in a statement to DailyMail.com, said her son should face the consequences, but she ultimately loves and supports him.
“I love my son Tyler, who has gone through very difficult public challenges for a young man and the issue of attention that he did not ask for,” she said.
He added that his son was “an adult and a father” and should “take responsibility” like anyone else.
‘It breaks my heart to see my son struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been given multiple opportunities to get his life back on track. “I will never give up on him and I will continue to be there for him,” he added.
