Police in New South Wales have officially retired police constable Kristian White after he was found guilty of the manslaughter of a 95-year-old great-grandmother.
The senior officer fired his stun gun at Clare Nowland in a treatment room at the Yallambee Lodge nursing home in the southern New South Wales town of Cooma during the early hours of May 17, 2023.
New South Wales Police Commissioner Karen Webb confirmed the 34-year-old had been dismissed in a statement issued shortly before 3pm on Tuesday.
“Today (Tuesday, December 3, 2024) I have determined that I have no confidence in the officer’s suitability to continue as a police officer, in accordance with the procedure provided under the Police Act 1990, section 181D,” it said.
‘Accordingly, I removed it from the New South Wales Police and their legal counsel reported it.
“I have spoken to the family of the 95-year-old victim involved in this matter and informed them of my decision.”
It comes just days after the senior constable was suspended from the force without pay and Commissioner Webb confirmed White’s employment was “under review”.
In a video played at his trial in the New South Wales Supreme Court, White was heard saying “fuck no” before shooting the great-grandmother in the torso.
