Kevin Durant is furious with Nike, with whom he has a lifetime contract, after the brand excluded him from an Olympics commercial that previewed the US team’s participation in the Summer Olympics.
Durant is one of a dozen players on the men’s basketball team who will compete in Paris.
Durant has not played in any of the Americans’ pre-Paris warm-up games because of a nagging calf injury.
The pain of not being a part of Nike’s “Winning Isn’t for Everyone” ad hurt him to the point that Durant wanted everyone to know his frustrations.
Fellow American Olympic basketball players LeBron James, A’ja Wilson and Sabrina Ionescu were part of the announcement.
Durant has been out of Team USA for the past few weeks due to a calf injury.
Durant was not happy about being left out of a recent Nike advertisement and posted the admission on social media.
“@Nike tell me am I a bad person?” Durant said on Instagram.
Durant then posted two photos of himself holding gold medals during the 2016 and 2021 Olympics in Rio and Tokyo.
“I’ve been with you every step of the way @nike,” Durant continued. “Even during the quarantine Olympics @nike.”
James and Michael Jordan are the only three players to have signed lifetime contracts with Nike.
Durant first signed a partnership deal with Nike in 2007, fresh out of Texas while with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Durant could have played in Monday’s game against Germany, but he was unable to play.
Team USA begins its Olympic campaign on Sunday with a group stage match against Serbia.
