A carefree traveling couple has declared an idyllic camping spot their favorite place to spend a day in Australia.

Kendall Baggerly and Glenn Ferguson say Drummond Point on South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula has been the site of one of their most memorable days on the road since they began touring the country in their refurbished Volkswagen van in early 2020.

The duo recently uploaded a TikTok video of the region, which is a seven-hour drive west of Adelaide, with its world-class surf, crystal-clear ocean and white sand beaches stretching as far as the eye can see.

Home to some of Australia’s most vibrant marine life, the coast is teeming with playful sea lions and pods of dolphins who love to swim with curious tourists.

Thrill-seekers can indulge in great white shark cage diving further offshore at Port Lincoln – the world’s first place to offer the adrenaline-boosting activity.

Conservationist Rodney Fox did the first-ever tour in 1976 after the producers of the Hollywood blockbuster, JAWS, asked to use his custom cage to capture live footage.

Social media strategist full-time ‘van lifer’ Kendall Baggerly has filled her Instagram feed with photos of the breathtaking destination, which she traveled to late last year.

“This was hands down one of my favorite days on the road,” she wrote in the caption of one post.

Four must-haves for a van, according to a traveling couple

1. Removable screens for windows and doors – ‘They allow us to flow air without being destroyed by flies and mosquitoes. Hardware stores like Bunnings or Home Depot have them,” Kendall said.

2. A comfortable mattress/topper – ‘Don’t shorten this!’ she said.

“A good night’s sleep is everything when you travel.”

3. A durable outdoor carpet to expand your living space

4. A solar panel or blanket to charge your secondary battery – ‘This allows us to charge our cameras, phones, laptops when we don’t drive much.’

“We had to go into town urgently to stock up and do the laundry, but the weather was too good to leave! So we spent the day here – swimming, exploring rock pools, watching dolphins… just taking it all in.”

She added: “We may have had muesli for lunch and potatoes for dinner, but I don’t think I could have asked for a better day.”

Another added: ‘This view touched me. You have the dream life!’

“I’ve seen Aussie stuff all over social media, think it’s time to go,” said a third.

Regions such as the Eyre Peninsula attract record numbers of visitors as Australians seek domestic distractions while the country’s international borders remain closed.

Reopening beyond New Zealand’s trans-Tasman and other ‘safe’ travel bubbles looks increasingly unlikely until mid-2022 as new outbreaks, including the latest Melbourne quarantine breach, continue to disrupt normal travel.
