Kate Winslet weighed in on the debate

She’s not who you’d expect to see in the aisles of your local Tesco…

Well, you definitely won’t be doing that anymore, because Kate Winslet has said shopping is “too stressful”.

The 48-year-old actress told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: ‘I recently made the decision not to go to the shops anymore.

“They stress me out. When something new comes into my life, it’s usually because of a photo shoot or because my son doesn’t want to wear anything anymore, usually a jacket that’s too big.”

The 48-year-old actress weighed in on the infamous debate by asking how she balances her personal and professional life.

Kate Winslet has weighed in on the “can women have it all?” debate by revealing how she deals with mother guilt as a busy actress (pictured this month)

She explained: ‘For me, self-care simply means having time to just be and having time to be kind to myself.

‘As women, we try to keep up with our lives and get frustrated if we don’t manage to get some exercise or walk the dog for two hours or be present at all the sports games of the day or drop off and pick up the kids from school.

“I’m taking it easy, knowing that I just can’t accomplish all those things; that’s becoming more and more important to me.”

Kate, who is mum to Mia Threapleton, 23, Joe Mendes, 20, and Bear, 10, added: “I often feel most beautiful when I’m just relaxed. I’m working on becoming more relaxed.”

It’s a philosophy shared by her good friend Emma Thompson, and Kate shares that she offered her some advice that has stuck with her forever.

“When I was younger, she said to me, ‘Listen, honey, remember that it’s very important to do good work, but it’s very important not to work.’ I’ve never forgotten that,” Kate revealed.

The Oscar-winning star also spoke about how she treats her physical and mental wellbeing equally.

She explained: ‘Women become more beautiful as they age. Our faces become more like who we are, they fit better with our bone structure, they have more life, more history.

‘The things I find incredibly beautiful are the wrinkles around the eyes and the backs of the hands.

‘But I’ve also learned that it’s important to take care of yourself from within, not just how you eat and take care of yourself from a nutritional standpoint, but how you take care of yourself from a mental wellness standpoint; how you feel about yourself emotionally, physically, your place in the world, how you walk through the world, how you live with integrity and sincerity.

“I think these things matter and are reflected in our appearance and of course in how we feel. Beauty is more about feeling than what we see.”

Kate revealed that she eased her guilt as a mother by realizing that it would be impossible to be present

Kate revealed that she eased her parental guilt by realising it would be impossible to be present “at every sporting game, dropping the kids off and picking them up from school” (pictured with daughter Mia in 2001).

However, over the years, one of the most important things for Kate was to learn to accept herself and use her voice to speak out against any injustice.

Kate reasoned: ‘We become more tolerant of who we are and how our bodies and faces change, and how we learn from life’s lessons. We need to become more tolerant of ourselves and of others.

‘When I started, it was not possible for women to have a voice and defend themselves.

‘It certainly wasn’t the case that you could flag something you weren’t comfortable with, because that would be seen as a complaint.

‘After MeToo and the last decade in our industry, we’ve seen a huge increase in roles for women. There are a lot of new actresses doing amazing work, and I think all of that really contributes to an exciting industry that’s full of people who know how to use their voices, and that’s inspiring to others.

‘Now women are using their voices in a remarkable way, and that’s how I too have learned my worth and how to use my voice.
