The NFL opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens was delayed 20 minutes due to a thunderstorm that hit Arrowhead Stadium.
The game was scheduled to start at 7:20 p.m. local time, but the storm delayed the start by 20 minutes, until 7:40 p.m., when the game finally began.
NBC captured a sensational image of lightning appearing to strike the Kansas City Royals stadium, which is next to Arrowhead Stadium.
Both teams’ warm-ups were interrupted. They had to leave the field and return to the locker room and fans were asked to vacate their seats. The stadium is a football stadium and there is not much shelter around for fans.
Chiefs players returned to the field around 7:06 p.m. local time to finish their warm-ups, moments after a rainbow formed over the stadium.

Fans were told to vacate the stands while they waited for the storm to clear.
After the storm passed, a rainbow formed over Arrowhead Stadium before kickoff.
Fortunately for those lucky enough to have a ticket, the weather would be clear for the rest of the night once the storm passed.
Taylor Swift arrived at Arrowhead Stadium just before the rain began to fall, and the singer was on hand to cheer on her boyfriend Travis Kelce in action for the Chiefs.
And the Chiefs themselves joked that they had bad luck at the start of the game. Earlier Thursday, they posted a photo of an empty Arrowhead Stadium with the caption: “The calm before the storm.”
When the weather turned bad, they retweeted the post with the caption: “We didn’t mean it literally…”
