Ricky Wilson reflected on his big career change and how his entry into radio has helped him after the success of the rock band.
The Kaiser Chiefs frontman, 46, opened up about the ups and downs of fame and admitted that radio is now “not only a joy” but also a “three-hour, five-day-a-week mental workout” for him. .
The singer opened up about how he forged a new career in television and radio after living it up with the multi-platinum band, first joining The Voice for three seasons.
Meanwhile, last year he came second on The Masked Singer, where he was dressed as Phoenix, and also hosted an art exhibition on CBBC.
But the rock star admitted that despite fondly remembering Kaiser Chiefs’ heyday, he doesn’t miss fame and feels at home while doing radio.

speaking to sunday timeRicky explained that he has been juggling work duties and parenting two-year-old twins.
He previously appeared on Radio X and Radio 2, but has now been a regular for 18 months presenting Virgin Radio’s weekday drive show.
Recalling his first exposure to radio, he said: ‘At first I found it terrifying. There’s no one to bounce off of, just me telling stories and reflecting on my life. The magic is connecting with the audience.
‘Television doesn’t do that anymore, but radio still has a strong community spirit. It’s my favorite place to be.
Ricky made no secret that the fame during Kaiser Chief’s heyday was ‘fantastic’, although he doesn’t miss it.
Revealing an ace up his sleeve, the television personality revealed that wearing ‘cheap jeans’ has always been his secret to not being recognized in public.
Ricky’s confidence in the spotlight must have also been smooth thanks to his father, who was director of It’s A Knockout, a family television show watched by millions in the 1970s.
‘I recently realized that this must have greatly affected what I do today. I’m a nepo baby! Not because my parents’ past got me a job but because I saw what was possible. I have always felt comfortable on sets. Nothing in the entertainment industry has ever seemed out of my reach. Hey, we used to have Su Pollard at our house.

Talking about getting into radio, he said: “Television doesn’t do that anymore, but radio still has a strong community spirit.” It’s my favorite place to be.
“I’ve always felt comfortable on sets. Nothing in the entertainment industry has ever seemed out of my reach. Hey, we used to have Su Pollard at our house,” he said.
Explaining his path to television, Ricky recalled that it was a difficult time for the band who were in decline despite the success of their second album Yours Truly, 2007’s Angry Mob.
“The main reason I got into television was to help us sell more records,” Wilson says candidly. ‘The band at that time was in a complicated situation.
‘Our drummer, who had also been our songwriter, had left and we were finding it increasingly difficult to appear on television. The only option he presented himself was for me to be television.”
The English singer assured that he is now feeling much better, after appearing visibly drunk on the O2 stage in 2022 and being accused by his fans of slurring his words in the middle of a ‘chaotic’ concert.
At the time, concertgoers and online fans called her performance “terrible,” a “disaster,” and “painful.”
The artist apologized at the time for “a mistake” and for relying on “old drinking habits” that night.
In a statement seen by Sun Posted on social media that may now have been deleted, he said: “I don’t want to make lame excuses, I’ve faced some challenges in this life I’ve led and I’ve stayed on top of them with the support I’ve always had around me.
‘The truth is that I made a mistake on Saturday night at the O2, and relied on old drinking habits, it’s a mistake that upset and disappointed many of you, and some of the people closest to me.
“I try to pride myself on not letting people down and it seems like the other night I let myself down in that regard.” I am doing everything necessary to ensure that this does not happen again. And will continue to do so.’

Ricky has suffered from crippling anxiety in the past and in 2019 admitted he turned to alcohol to combat it.

In an interview, he previously told The Guardian that he was never “dependent” on alcohol, but became increasingly dependent on “finding ways to do it.”
He has felt “embarrassed” and “embarrassed” by his drinking problems and said he never knew how to talk about it.
Apologizing once again, Ricky commented that he knew it was a clear sign that he needed to “get ready and look stylish” once and for all and that he now runs regularly and practices a healthier, more balanced lifestyle.
