Before the second leg in the Champions League quarter-finals against Manchester City, CEO Oliver Kahn expressed his dissatisfaction with Bayern Munich’s performance.
“We always want to win. Such performances with these results hurt us as well as the fans,” Kahn told “Sport Bild” with regard to the elimination in the DFB Cup against SC Freiburg, the 0: 3 in the first leg at ManCity as well as the 1:1 in the Bundesliga against 1899 Hoffenheim. “Of course we imagined it differently,” said the former goalkeeper titan.
“We have more than 20 national players in our squad, it’s certainly not due to the sporting quality. Recently there was too little will, too little willingness to recognize. Inconsistency is our consistency, that can’t be the claim of this team,” Kahn rumbled on.
In this context, the 53-year-old made an urgent appeal to the Munich pros: “Everyone has to know what the decisive phase of the season is all about: showing who FC Bayern is. Only if we get that on the pitch , we still have a chance against Man City.”
Kahn trusts the new coach Thomas Tuchel to play a central role in overcoming the current phase of weakness. “The last games have shown that there are some major adjustments that Thomas has to make. Under Thomas, the team will find their form and consistency again,” said the club boss of the German record champions.
FC Bayern: criticism of Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic
Kahn and sports director Hasan Salihamidzic were recently criticized for the latest developments at FC Bayern.
“It’s not just the results and performances that aren’t there on the pitch. If you’re uneasy around you, it automatically spreads to the pitch. That’s why it’s not surprising because there’s so much unrest in the club,” said Lothar Matthäus “Sky”.
The record national player added: “Mané, Sané, the goalkeeping coach was fired, the mole once at Nagelsmann, now from Manchester. Those are issues that are also a point. Those responsible should also communicate.”
