Julian Nagelsmann has put an end to speculation about his future by signing a new contract with the German team that will take him until the 2026 World Cup.
In recent days there had been a lot of speculation about his return to Bayern Munich a year after being replaced by Thomas Tuchel.
Premier League teams Liverpool and Manchester United were also said to be interested.
In a statement, Nagelsmann said: “This is a decision from the heart. It is a great honor to be able to coach the national team and work with the best players in the country.
‘With successful and passionate performances we have the opportunity to inspire an entire country.
Julian Nagelsmann signs a new contract with Germany until after the 2026 World Cup
Nagelsmann had been linked with clubs such as Liverpool, Man United and Bayern Munich.
“The two victories against France and Holland in March moved me a lot. We want to play together in a successful European Championship at home and I am looking forward to the Challenge of a World Cup together with my technical team.’
Bernd Beuendorf, president of the German football federation, acknowledged that it was an important step to tie down Nagelsmann due to interest from major European teams.
He said: “It is a strong signal for the DFB and the national team that Julian Nagelsmann will remain the coach beyond the home Euro. Because he was on the list of many big clubs across Europe.
‘But for Julian Nagelsmann the national team is more than just a job: it is a real matter of the heart. Now we have security in the planning and everyone can fully concentrate on having a successful performance at the Euro.’
Nagelsmann had a shaky start as Germany coach, having arrived at a time when the country had won just four of its previous 12 matches.
After beating the United States in their first match, Germany drew with Mexico and suffered losses to Turkey and Austria.
However, in the March internationals, Germany beat two European heavyweights in France and the Netherlands, giving them some optimism ahead of the home Euros this summer.
Rudi Voller, director of the men’s national team, said: “Even before the recent successful international matches we were absolutely convinced of Julian Nagelsmann. But they have shown once again the enthusiasm that Julian and his team can rekindle in Germany.
“He is an exceptional coach, a tactical fox who not only has great football knowledge, but can also inspire all the players with his passion. He is enthusiastic about the national team and its success. I am very happy that we will continue together for this path after the Euro Cup at home.
