Legendary Australian singer John Farnham’s voice was heard for the first time after undergoing surgery for oral cancer.

The You’re The Voice hitmaker, 75, is narrating the audiobook version of his memoir, The Voice Inside.

Publisher Hachette Australia published an excerpt from the book on Tuesday, in which Farnham sounded a little more serious than before his marathon 12-hour procedure.

‘I don’t enjoy talking about myself, I really don’t. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m an egomaniac, but dredging up the past isn’t something I’ve really enjoyed,” he said in the preview.

‘I will try to share as much as I can, but it is not easy because I have never been so open. I suppose there are reasons for that. Reasons for my reluctance,” Farnham added.

Since revealing his cancer diagnosis in August 2022, Farnham has remained largely out of the public spotlight.

On the same day as his announcement, he underwent a grueling 12-hour surgery, which included a jaw reconstruction to remove a tumor from his mouth.

In August 2023, Farnham revealed that he was cancer-free, 12 months after the procedure.

Farnham’s family had previously provided updates on behalf of the Australian music legend following the August 2022 operation.

Speaking on Sunrise, his son Robert said his father was “fantastic”.

The That’s Freedom favorite was also hospitalized after he developed a chest infection following surgery to remove a cancerous tumor in his mouth.

In his operation, carried out by 26 medical staff, a large part of his jaw was also removed.

Farnham only discovered he had a cancerous growth in his mouth after his wife Jill insisted on taking him to the doctor for a check-up when he developed a persistent mouth ulcer.
