A drunk Briton has been arrested at a Spanish airport after being drunk on board and trying to open the door in mid-flight.

Spanish police were waiting on the tarmac when the plane landed at Alicante-Elche’s Miguel Hernández airport and arrested the 28-year-old man, who was said to have been so drunk that he did not realize the plane was still on the air. .

Passengers helped the crew restrain him during a fight in which he reportedly became aggressive and compromised the safety of the flight.

The incident occurred on Thursday aboard an Easyjet flight leaving Gatwick airport bound for Alicante-Elche in Spain, according to Spanish newspaper Informacion.es.

The Briton had already been bothering the other passengers with his drunken behavior.

As the plane approached its destination, the man allegedly tried to open a door to “get off faster” without realizing that the plane had not yet landed.

This caused the pilot to have to call the control tower to request the presence of the Civil Guard at the time of landing, Informacion.es reported.

‘Apparently, the traveler boarded already drunk but his condition worsened during the flight, since the altitude enhances the effects of alcohol. At one point he got into a fight with other travelers, whom he attacked after insulting and provoking them. When the company’s onboard personnel intervened, they also tried to hit them,” says Información.es.

‘And not only that. In the middle of a brawl, she tried to open the plane door to get off, without realizing that they were in mid-flight, and then tried to access the cabin. Finally, the passenger helped the crew to immobilize him and, as soon as the plane landed in El Altet, the Civil Guard came in and detained him.’

According to the Spanish Aviation Safety Agency, the flight route from London to Alicante is the second with the highest number of incidents on board. Last year alone there were 184 complaints.

Drunk Britons are said to be responsible for most of these episodes.
