Jamie Carragher aims dig at Man United legend by labelling him a ‘poor man’s Virgil van Dijk’ during TV studio debate on the best Premier League centre-backs

Jamie Carragher reignited his feud with Rio Ferdinand by labeling the Man United legend a “poor man’s Virgil van Dijk”.

The former Reds defender took a fresh dig at the highlights of Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Luton on Wednesday night.

Van Dijk sparked the comeback after heading a corner into the back of the net, to the delight of Carragher, who was working on CBS’ Champions League coverage.

Expert Micah Richards asked Carragher for his opinion on Van Dijk’s goal.

“No need to analyze that,” Carragher said on Richards’ Instagram story.

‘Look at the colossus, look at it, look at it! A marvel of modern science.

“He is the best centre-back the Premier League has ever seen, by far.”

Richards then asked how Van Dijk compares to other legendary centre-backs such as Carragher, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Sol Campbell and Tony Adams.

“JT could play alongside him, he would allow it,” Carragher replied, before adding that Ferdinand was: “A poor man’s Van Dijk.”

Last May C.Arragher said he was “happy to call him a clown” while covering the Champions League semi-final with CBS.

The Liverpool hero and the Manchester United legend have clashed on social media before and Carragher fueled the fire once again by criticizing Ferdinand’s opinion on a penalty during Inter Milan’s 2-0 win over rivals AC .

Lautaro Martínez fell inside the AC Milan area after a fight with Simon Kjaer. Referee Jesús Gil Manzano immediately pointed out the spot and cautioned the defender, but overturned his decision after the VAR asked him to consult his monitor.

Ferdinand attacked Carragher, a former Liverpool player close to Gerrard, during his FIVE programme, which was shared on Twitter.

Rio said: ‘Jamie. Jamie Carragher. Where are you, man? I heard a lot of talk, a lot of negativity about Saudi Arabia. Oh, Bernardo Silva, I can’t believe it. It’s a shame, this league needs to be investigated, etc.

‘Steven Gerrard is gone. You used to take his boots and his bag to Anfield to games. Your boy went there and I haven’t heard anything from you. I haven’t heard how disappointed you are. I want to see him say “I can’t believe Stevie went there.”

However, Carragher was less than pleased with Ferdinand’s personalized attack and accused the former Manchester United and England defender of hypocrisy for dodging questions about Qatar during the 2022 World Cup.
