Jack Grealish has offered Manchester City and England fans a ray of hope by posting a series of focused pictures of injury rehab.
The star was on the bench for City’s 2-0 FA Cup win over Newcastle but will miss England’s friendlies after suffering a recurrence of his groin injury against Luton last month.
He has missed as many Premier League games through suspension or benching as he has played this season – 14.
Pep Guardiola asked him to dedicate his international break to regaining top fitness. Grealish has started two of City’s last 14 games and has been injured in the first half of both.
‘Lonely month on the way back’, the 28-year-old wrote on Instagram, but it was far from a sour post.

Snaps showed Grealish looking determined in a series of training shots, and he even tried his hand at water polo and underwater meditation. Perhaps he is bidding to become the world’s first amphibious footballer.
The solo snapshots also revealed Grealish doing keep-ups, jogging past an elaborate arrangement of cones and stretching under the watchful eye of a trainer.
There was an admission that a rushed return was a factor in his latest setback when he was hauled off in the first half against Luton on 27 February.
Grealish looked devastated and buried his face in a track jacket as team-mates consoled him.
‘Looks like it (a recurrence of the groin injury),’ said Guardiola after the match. ‘It is the second time. Hopefully he can recover well this time.
‘I didn’t speak to the doctor but I think he complained a bit about his groin.
‘He was doing really well, but unfortunately got injured again.’
– It has been a tough season for him. He will have to recover well and help us when he is able to come back.’

The injury came after Grealish quickly recovered from a groin problem he picked up in Copenhagen two weeks earlier.
Gareth Southgate has opted out of selecting him for friendlies against Brazil and Belgium before selecting his European Championship squad.
He has struggled to keep his place on the left for City after Jeremy Doku emerged in the summer, signing for £55m from Rennes.
