England’s penalty shootout hero Ivan Toney has teased fans with a hilarious video imitating his trademark no-look penalty-taking style.

The Brentford striker was the latest guest on the Diary Room series, one of the behind-the-scenes shows of the England camp on social media, and played basketball, four-in-a-row, darts and read a book – all without looking.

While his penalty for not looking on the big stage seemed outrageous to fans, to Toney it was nothing out of the ordinary.

“I’ve always done this. I feel like it’s worked for me and I hope I can continue to do it,” he said.

“I always look at the goalkeeper, whoever it is. I always wait to see if he makes the first move and if he doesn’t, I choose a corner to put the ball in,” he explained.

The penalty shoot-out hero added: “I was excited, obviously I was back on the pitch. I was able to take a penalty and yes, I think they were five good penalties.”

Toney scored England’s fourth penalty in the quarter-final shoot-out against Switzerland with icy coolness in a perfect series of spot-kicks for the Three Lions.

Despite the high stakes at the time, Toney pushed forward with his usual confident style that Brentford and Premier League fans know so well.

Toney stared at Swiss goalkeeper Yann Sommer waiting for him to flinch before calmly curling his shot into the bottom left corner past a helpless Sommer.

“To be fair, he (Sommer) didn’t break eye contact, but I put it in the corner. He dove in the right direction, but the ball was in the corner, so luckily it went in,” Toney said.

The distinctive style of penalty-taking did not just entertain the fans. Fellow English star Bukayo Saka was amazed by his team-mate’s skill.

“It’s crazy. We’re all in shock, I don’t know how you can’t look at the ball,” Saka said.

Luke Shaw also chimed in, adding: “I can’t believe it. It’s crazy, especially when you watch the video again. There’s one that just shows his face and it’s crazy.”

It was a ridiculously soft moment that came after Cole Palmer, Jude Bellingham and Saka had all scored their penalties.

Switzerland’s Manuel Akanji made the decisive mistake by missing his country’s first penalty.

Trent Alexander-Arnold then converted the final penalty to send England through to a semi-final date with the Netherlands after winning 5-3 on penalties.
