All eyes are on the Brazilian’s development to see if he can rack up enough victories to match middleweight champion Adesanya and take their rivalry to the octagon.

Teixeira trains with Pereira and is confident he has the tools to quickly fill gaps in his MMA game and quickly win a fight with the champ.

He told the MMA Hour: “I told him when he signed with the UFC, ‘Hey man, they’ll be talking about you in about a year, three fights.’ Especially the way he fought. It couldn’t get any better.

“I couldn’t be happier as a coach as a training partner who has been telling people that this man is no joke. He still has a lot to learn, but he’s learning things fast.

“He’ll get it soon. I’m talking about you get a common man and whatever, that man is going to learn it in six months – [Pereira will] learn in a week. You show him a move and he just does it.

The second oldest champion in UFC history added: ‘Alex is a bit like’ [me in training] and couldn’t have done it better [at UFC 268].

“He got knocked down, he defended takedowns, he got up and stayed there. You see the other guy coming out of the clinch, the guy’s face was all messed up, he was dead tired and he came out with the flying knee. So peaceful, so relaxed.

“I say three fights the most, and he wants to fight fast. He wants February already, he wants to fight fast, so he will probably fight back to back.

“No injuries, nothing. By this time next year, they’ll be talking about him and Adesanya.’
