Country singer Ingrid Andress made a bizarre comment about rehab being “super fun” after speaking out about her national anthem disaster at the MLB Home Run Derby.
Andress went viral for all the wrong reasons on Monday night after producing an off-key rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, which was quickly dubbed “the worst national anthem ever” by fans on social media.
The 32-year-old later broke her silence amid backlash over her performance, revealing on Tuesday that she was intoxicated when she sang in Texas and now plans to check herself into a rehab facility as a result.
However, at the end of her statement about seeking help, Andress appeared to crack a joke about rehab.
“I’ll tell you what rehabilitation is like. I’ve been told it’s a lot of fun,” she concluded in the post.

While the comment was likely just a sarcastic joke, several users took to social media to urge Andress not to take her situation lightly and highlighted the seriousness of rehab.
“I’m glad you’re acknowledging your problem and seeking help. But rehab isn’t “very fun,” wrote one on X. “I’ve been to rehab. It’s not fun – you have to learn to have new emotions and deal with them in real life.”
Another said: “To be fair, saying ‘I hear rehab is a lot of fun’ is downplaying the importance of people who take it very seriously when they have a problem with alcohol.”
While a third said: “Rehab isn’t “super fun”. Those who need it (for real, not to save their fame) usually go through a medically induced detox followed by several weeks of VERY hard self-reflection and introspection. If you really have a problem, God bless you and I hope you get better soon.”
In the rest of her statement, Andress wrote: ‘I’m not going to lie to you, I was drunk last night.
‘Today I’m going to check into a center to get the help I need. I didn’t do that last night.
‘I apologize to MLB, all the fans and this country that I love so much for that interpretation.’
Andress joked that she heard rehab is a fun experience after claiming she was “drunk” when she played the national anthem out of tune and that she now plans to check herself into a facility.
Four-time Grammy-nominated artist Andress spoke out after her performance went viral
Musicians flooded the comments section with their support for Andress, with Julia Michaels writing: “I love you babe. I’m sorry you’re going through this and I’m sorry the world can be so cruel. I’m here for you xx.”
Carly Pearce also chimed in: “Sending my love to you, Ingrid. Being so open takes a lot of effort. You can do it. Cheer up.”
Andress, a four-time Grammy-nominated artist, was compared to Fergie after going viral for all the wrong reasons, with some claiming her performance was far worse than that of the former Black-Eyed Peas singer, who also received criticism for her performance at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game.
“Ingrid Andress gives Fergie a run for her money for worst national anthem ever performed,” one person wrote on X after the performance.
“My ears are bleeding. One of the worst renditions of the national anthem ever,” another person shared.
A third chimed in: “That Ingrid Andress national anthem might have been the worst thing to happen to America in the last 48 hours #brutal.”
