The problem is very familiar: you buy a fresh loaf of bread and find it covered in mold a few days later.

For many, this means a frustrating trip to the trash.

But according to a follower of Ms Hinch, there’s a simple, cost-effective solution hidden in plain sight in most people’s fridges – and it only costs a few cents.

Mom-of-two Katya Mackle, also known as @katya.macle on TikTok, regularly shares life, home interior, and food hacks to her 79,000 followers.

In June 2022, the content creator uploaded a video that helps to make even more use of fresh food, attaching the legend: ‘Here are some tips for food preservation.’

In addition to her tips on preserving various produce fresh, including using paper towels and apple cider vinegar to prevent berries from molding and wrapping banana tails in aluminum foil, Katya revealed her top tip for making Fresh bread lasts longer.

The key vegetable, commonly used in salads and soups, to keep bread from going bad quickly is a humble celery stalk.

In the video, Katya explains: ‘To make the bread last longer, I use celery. The bread does not dry out or mold for two or three weeks.’

She demonstrates the trick by opening a bag of M&S soft white country bread and gently pushing celery sticks into the end of the load so they sit on top of the slices.

The influencer insists that using celery does not alter the flavor of the bread or give it a smell.

Katya’s solution to moldy bread requires no expensive equipment or products, as a packet of celery costs 69p at Tesco, or just 60p with a Clubcard.

More than 250 comments poured in from viewers expressing their relief at news of the hack, while others shared their own methods for making their loaves of bread last longer.
