The Traitors has quickly become one of Britain’s most loved shows, with millions of people tuning in every night to see if the Faithfuls can eradicate the devious Traitors and find out who will win the coveted jackpot.
Last year, the nation watched through its fingers at some of the most dramatic scenes, grimacing as Diane Carson drank her rose fizz, Paul Gorton was exposed as a traitor and Harry Clark stole the jackpot from Mollie Pearce in the moments finals.
However, the tension conveyed on the screen was nothing compared to the atmosphere inside the castle, as the faithful Charlotte Chilton from the second season can compete.
Speaking exclusively to MailOnline about her experience, the 32-year-old Recruitment Manager, who was the eighth contestant to be banished from her season, explained that she was shocked by many aspects of the show, but mainly by how deeply it affected her.
“There are so many layers that go into filming a show with 22 people that has missions, tense moments, the level of secrecy that comes with it,” he explained.
“You can feel the pressure, how tense it gets towards the end, when there are fewer people and obviously the team is interested in you too.”
The Traitors star Charlotte Chilton opened up about her time on the show, revealing her surprise at how intense the process was and how amazed she was by Claudia Winkleman.
Charlotte was surprised by presenter Claudia, revealing that producers often scolded her for getting too involved with contestants and that she was much nicer than she appears on screen.
Charlotte continued: ‘I wasn’t expecting that. I thought he was just going to say, “Okay, good luck and that’s it.” I didn’t expect it to be as intense as it is.
‘And because of the intensity, you build relationships with people in a much quicker time than you would say working with a person on a daily basis in an office.
“You’re forced to have confrontational conversations and talk about some pretty deep things because a lot of people who are in The Traitors have really interesting backstories, they all want to know what everyone’s backstory is.
‘I was also surprised by how friendly everyone was!’
Charlotte was also caught by host Claudia Winkleman, revealing that producers often scolded the TV personality for getting too involved with contestants.
“She has a headset on the whole time, obviously, because she’s presenting,” Charlotte explained.
‘So Claudia was regularly scolded and pushed away because she had to be very careful not to reveal anything.
“She’s very stern on camera, but when we weren’t filming, she tried to make us laugh as much as she could.
‘She is naturally a very funny woman and is very, very loving. She’s very motherly, something I didn’t expect.
“I didn’t get that impression of her on TV, so when I met her, it was really shocking to me.”
Season Two Cast (LR) Andrew, Jonny, Paul, Jasmine, Charlie, Anthony, Sonja, Aubrey, Diane, Brian, Mollie, Harry, Zack, Evie, Charlotte, Ash, Meg, Jaz, Kyra, Ross, Tracey and Miles.
Charlotte continued: “She had a real interest in us and we were all fine emotionally – she was ready for hugs and things like that.” He talked a lot about his family, so it was pretty funny.
“It’s really nice, but it has such dark humor that, in those moments when you’re waiting to do something, it makes it more fun and interesting.
‘She doesn’t pretend to be nice and is really a diva, she’s the complete opposite. She is even kinder, friendlier and funnier than in real life.
For now, Charlotte hopes to reunite with the season three cast.
‘You become a kind of family and support each other through it. It will be very nice to welcome another 22 people to our family. “We all got on very well with the cast of the first series.”
And for anyone who wants to apply for the show’s fourth season, Charlotte’s advice was that while you may have to lie and act in the castle, you should be yourself in the casting process.
“They’re looking for people who are nice, who people can support in a program, so Staying there and pretending to be something you’re not isn’t going to work.
‘You just need to be yourself, be proud of who you are, just laugh and share your stories. I think the more relaxed you are, the more people will accept you and that, in turn, will put you in a better position in front of the thousands of people who apply.
‘It’s a life-changing experience. Studio Lambert is the best company to work with and they really care about you afterwards. “Now we are very, very excited to welcome new people to The Traitors family.”
