I just returned from my honeymoon and am planning to end the marriage after my husband’s terrible act: “A big red flag”

A wife wanted to end her marriage the day she returned from her honeymoon after discovering her husband lied about a deleted text exchange with a fellow traveller.

A couple’s honeymoon ended on Monday after a distraught wife caught her husband engaging in “worrying” behaviour with another woman.

The couple had befriended a solo female traveler on their honeymoon and exchanged social messages with her, thinking she was “cool.”

“My husband made some comments on her post and let me know he was watching her stories. He’s way more involved in social media than I am, so that didn’t alarm me,” the newlywed said.

But after getting curious, the suspicious wife couldn’t resist checking her husband’s DMs as they have a strict ‘open phone’ policy in the relationship.

The woman was alarmed to find no evidence of a conversation between her husband and his friend, which was “strange” because the husband had already admitted to exchanging some polite messages with her.

“He first tried to trick me by saying he hadn’t deleted it. Finally, he admitted to deleting it, but he didn’t acknowledge that it was inappropriate. He claims he got ‘nervous’ and that’s his excuse,” she added.

The wife could not understand why an innocent chat would make her husband feel so uncomfortable, and said she had now “lost all trust” in him.

“Would I be an idiot to quit so soon over something like that?” she asked on Reddit.

A wife wanted to end her marriage the day she returned from her honeymoon after discovering her husband lied about a deleted text exchange with a fellow traveller.

Thousands of people echoed the distraught wife’s dilemma, with many telling her to “stop it now.”

“It’s inexcusable and deceptive behavior at a time when a couple’s devotion is usually at its peak – hence the phrase ‘honeymoon period,'” one woman said.

“I know two women who ended their marriages within weeks of getting married. Neither of them regret it. Do it before you buy a house or have a child together, which are MUCH bigger commitments.”

Others agreed, saying the husband’s sharing of social details was “a huge red flag” as he should have only had eyes for his wife, especially on their honeymoon.

They also thought that the messages could not have been so “innocent” if the cheating husband had been forced to delete them.

“Innocent chats don’t get deleted and people with nothing to hide don’t gaslight,” one man said.

“So he deleted the evidence of their innocent conversation because innocent conversation made him nervous? Always trust your instinct,” another agreed.

Many said that suspicious behavior at such an early stage in the marriage was just a bad sign of things to come, and that it was probably “inevitable” that her husband would stray, if he hadn’t already.

Some people thought the wife should try to trick her partner into confessing and confirm once and for all whether the text exchange was as innocent as he had claimed.

“Say, ‘I’ve figured out how to retrieve your messages. Is there anything you want to say about what I saw?’ Acting like you already know can often get a confession,” one man suggested.

But an ex-wife who had been in a similar situation warned the distraught woman not to pretend to know more than she did.

“I found out about my husband’s affair through that channel. Make sure you’re ready to go there.”
