I accidentally showed up to a wedding wearing exactly the same dress as the bridesmaids – the bride was fuming and people say I’m to blame

A wedding guest was mortified when she accidentally wore the same dress as the bridesmaids, leaving the bride very upset.

Taylor Fogarty, from Florida, spent $100 on a powder blue floor-length dress for a spring wedding in New Jersey.

But the makeup artist blushed when she saw the bridal party walking down the aisle and, to her horror, realized she was wearing the exact same dress as the bridesmaids.

The 28-year-old said she had a knot in her stomach all day because of the “embarrassing” mistake and was “dying inside” when a fellow guest mentioned it at the buffet table.

Taylor shared a video of the mistake on TikTok with the caption “my Roman Empire is the time I attended a wedding wearing the same dress as the bridesmaids,” which has now racked up more than 1.9 million views.

Taylor Fogarty, from Florida, USA, spent $100 on a powder blue floor-length dress for a spring wedding she was invited to in New Jersey.

The makeup artist blushed when she saw the bridal party walk down the aisle and, to her horror, realized that she was wearing the exact same dress as the bridesmaids.

Taylor said: ‘As soon as the bridesmaids started walking down the aisle, it hit me.

“I immediately started turning bright red and my stomach was in knots. I felt so uncomfortable that I wanted to leave, I couldn’t fully enjoy it.

‘I didn’t speak to the bridesmaids, I approached the bride at the reception and apologized. I felt so embarrassed that I felt like I had to say something.

‘She acted like she didn’t really care, but I could tell she felt something about it.

‘It was very, very uncomfortable. He had met her before but we weren’t close at all.

‘I mentioned it to anyone I spoke to at the wedding because I was so embarrassed.

“An older man said something about it when I was grabbing food at the buffet. I just went dying inside.

‘It’s my Roman Empire because I think about it often. I’m ashamed.’

Taylor said she felt too embarrassed to take photos with the bridesmaids (pictured).

She hadn’t considered her dress to look like a bridesmaid’s dress and chose blue to highlight her eyes.

Taylor was referring to the TikTok trend in which women ask the men in their lives how often they “think about the Roman Empire,” and the answers are often surprisingly frequent.

Its equivalent is now the unfortunate wedding dress saga, and it has clearly been on her mind.

Many social media users admitted they could relate to Taylor’s experience: “This happened to me twice as a plus 1, while another said, ‘How was I supposed to know what the bridesmaid would wear?’

But others thought Taylor was to blame for the mishap: “That’s a literal bridesmaid dress”;

‘Girl who looks like something out of David’s Bridal, what were you thinking?’;

“That’s why I ask the bride what color the bridesmaids are wearing.”

In a follow-up video, Taylor can be heard saying that her dress, which she bought from Lulus, “looks like a bridesmaid dress.”

However, she says it’s a “lesson learned” and she will “definitely figure out the color of the bridesmaids’ dress” for future weddings.

Taylor apologized to the bride and became even more embarrassed when other wedding guests began pointing fingers at him.

Some on TikTok said they had the same experience, but others said Taylor was to blame for the mishap.

Taylor said: “It definitely looks like a bridesmaid’s dress when you look back at it.”

“There was absolutely no dress code specified. Whenever I wear blue it always highlights my eyes, that color just suits me.

‘Maybe I shouldn’t have chosen a floor-length dress, but I wasn’t thinking.

‘At future weddings I go to I will definitely make sure to ask about the colors.

“A lot of people in the comments were saying the same thing happened to them, which definitely made me feel better.”

‘There are people who say I should have asked. I really don’t know if anyone would have asked that.
