Chad, along with Iveta’s three children, will testify during the three-day hearing, which will also look at the police investigation into the disappearance and investigate close friends and witnesses who allegedly overheard discussions near Iveta’s home the night she went missing.
Chad is expected to produce evidence this week that he and Iveta agreed to talk about their relationship the night before she went missing, but that the conversation turned into an argument that woke up their seven-year-old son, Kyle.
“Iveta and Chad went to comfort him, but Chad told Iveta to go away and she left the room,” Markham said in his opening statement Tuesday.
“Chad told police moments later he heard her lighting a cigarette and the main security door slam.
“Chad went to the front looking for Iveta and saw her walking towards the trail and then up the trail on the north side of the park adjacent to her house.
“That was the last reported sighting of Iveta Mitchell.”
Despite family and friends knocking on the door and passing out posters in the area, Iveta has not been seen or heard from since.
On May 16, 2010, 12 days after she went missing, Chad Mitchell contacted police to report that he had returned home that day to find his wife’s engagement ring and wedding ring outside the front of their house. on the doormat
Investigations led police and SES officers on horseback to search the brush on Meares Avenue Parmelia, and forensic officers with SES volunteers to search search in an area of dense scrub near Kwinana beach hoping to track down Iveta, but was unable to locate any trace of her.
The investigation is due to conclude on Thursday.
