Hugh Sheridan has clarified his sexuality, insisting he is “straight for now” and has never been non-binary.
The Australian actor, 38, seemingly came out as bisexual and non-binary on Instagram in 2021, but has now insisted that he identifies as “straight” – which refers to people who are only attracted to the opposite sex.
Hugh, who is currently single after breaking off his engagement to Kurt Ackerman, came out as sexually active on The Kyle and Jackie O Show, three years after coming out.
In 2021, Hugh referred to himself as non-binary and “bi” in an Instagram post, but added that he did not want to subscribe to labels around his sexuality.
Now, speaking to hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, Hugh seemingly revealed that he identifies as straight and said he has never been non-binary.
Non-binary people do not categorize their gender identity as male or female and often use they/them pronouns.
“I’m not non-binary, I’m just like you,” Hugh told Kyle, 53, after the radio host addressed their apparent non-binary gender identity.
Her clarification prompted Kyle to ask, “What straight?”, referring to his own sexuality.

Jackie, 49, then shared her surprise when he asked her again if she was “straight”, to which Hugh said: “For now, for now.”
However, the Packed to the Rafters star later said he is “flexible” and clarified that he never “associated” himself with any lyrics under the LGBTQIA+ acronym.
He also insisted that he never said he was non-binary, but that he was too “afraid” to correct people when he spoke about his sexuality and gender identity.
“Honestly, I was too afraid to say ‘I never said that.’ I was too scared because I thought everyone would come at me,” she said.
‘I never said that ever, I never associated myself with any letter of the alphabet, I just wanted to be like Kyle and Jackie O.
“I just wanted to be someone who could be himself and choose day by day.”
Hugh added that it is “normal” to change, as he said it is all part of being human during heart-to-heart discussion.
“Jackie O might go out and see a girl that he’s in love with, but she doesn’t say she’s this or that, she’s just Jackie O. And you’re just Kyle,” he added.
In July 2023, Hugh’s pronouns in his Instagram bio were listed as “he” after it was reported that he had been using “they” for two years. Now, Hugh does not include any pronouns in his Instagram bio.

Hugh previously spoke openly about his sexuality in an interview with gay men’s magazine DNA, revealing that he was comfortable with being called “gay”.
“I’m now going to marry a guy you can call gay,” Hugh explained to the magazine.
“It doesn’t matter! The point is that we are all human and, in my case, labeling locked me in a box that looked like a cell.”
Hugh also said Stellar Magazine: ‘I think labels are for clothes, not people.’

But after an eight-month engagement, Hugh made a shocking announcement in November 2021 that the couple had split and the actor is currently single.
Earlier this year, Hugh was seen proudly waving the rainbow flag at the 2024 Mardi Gras parade in Sydney while wearing a t-shirt that read “seen and believed.”
