The place is usually calm, although swimmers should use caution as there are sometimes strong currents.

Prawn Rock Channel runs between the mainland and visitors to Dog Island can access it via a footbridge to explore its small beaches and walking trails.

On a sunny day, the canal is usually filled with beachgoers relaxing and picnicking on the sand, taking a refreshing dip, snorkeling, kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding.

People have also made rope swings on the trees that line the shore and use them to jump into the water.

One adventurer called the gem one of the “most beautiful” places they have ever seen.

‘Even walking along the edge, there is a lot of life in this canal. Lots of soft yarn rays, some of the ones that come in are huge!’ they said.

“A lovely little place to have a drink, swim, bird watch and relax,” wrote another.

“During high tide, the flow of ocean water into the inlet means the channel fills with stunning turquoise waters, while low tide means water from the inlet flows into the ocean,” one post reads. Perth is fine.

“This means that Prawn Rock Channel can change dramatically between visits, not only in color but also in depth, strength, direction or flow and temperature; it is important to keep this in mind when planning a visit to the inlet.”
