The trend sees social media users taking their adoration for fantasy novels, such as Harry Potter and Game of Thrones, and implementing them on their special day.
The term “Booktok” has seen an 8,500 percent growth in popularity, with more than 110,000 Google searches in the past month for the phrase alone, according to wedding planning site Hitched.co.uk.
With a staggering 46.3 million views on the #HarryPotterWedding tag, the children’s fantasy fiction set in the wizarding world is the series leading the movement and inspiring book lovers to plan non-traditional weddings.

Fans of the trend took to TikTok to share ideas for literature-themed wedding days under the hashtag #FantasyWedding ideas.
While some couples opt for the BookTok theme to inspire their entire day, others choose for it to have a lesser influence, such as only featuring in the music.
Certain books tend to be the most popular choice for BookTok-inspired wedding days. With 46.3 million views on the #HarryPotterWedding tag on TikTok, the fantasy fiction series is one of the most popular for inspiring weddings.
Those who opt for the Harry Potter theme integrate music from the different soundtracks and choose locations with a Hogwarts feel.
Others choose their wedding colors based on which Hogwarts house they most identify with. Those who go the extra mile also have Golden Snitches as hairpieces.
Given that The Lord of the Rings has sold over 150 million copies worldwide, it’s no surprise that fans of the fantasy novel are taking inspiration from JRR Tolkien for their special day.
Under #LOTRWedding, fans shared touches of Middle Earth at their wedding, from nature-inspired woodsy decor, ethereal fashion choices, and music from the soundtrack.
Elsewhere, George RR Martin’s fantasy series A Game of Thrones has been the theme of many wedding days around the world. Fans of the novels and TV series shared their wedding ideas under #GOTWedding on TikTok, which has garnered more than 5.5 million views.
