How pregnant Michelle Keegan’s marriage to Mark Wright almost never happened as her scathing comments about his serial womanising are unearthed

Michelle Keegan’s previous scathing comments about her husband Mark Wright came back to haunt her on Monday, just hours after the actress confirmed her pregnancy.

The former Coronation Street star revealed she is expecting her first child with Mark in a series of Instagram posts on Sunday – nine years since their lavish Essex wedding.

But the ceremony may never have happened if Michelle, 37, had paid attention to her own comments about her TV personality husband in 2011.

In a section of his recently resurfaced Love It! magazine column, titled ‘Tut Tut, Mark,’ the then-24-year-old star aired some less than complimentary opinions about her future husband and his on-again, off-again relationship with The Only Way Is Essex co-star Lauren Goodger.

She wrote: ‘I love TOWIE! It’s one of those shows you don’t want to watch, but can’t help but turn on. But I don’t know how Lauren can get Mark back so easily – it’s so embarrassing!

“I couldn’t go back to someone who had slept with a lot of girls I knew, but that’s just me.”

Mark and Lauren, who were together for ten years on and off, rose to fame on the ITVBe reality series, with storylines revolving around his numerous flirtations with other women, including co-stars Lucy Mecklenburgh and Sam Faiers.

Mark and Lauren even got engaged on TOWIE in March 2011, only for the Essex lad to call things off five months later – and there has been bad blood between the couple ever since.

A year and a half later, Mark and Michelle met during a group vacation in Dubai and fell madly in love.

In September 2013, less than a year after their New Year’s vacation, the couple became engaged and attempted to marry in May 2015.

The couple confirmed the happy news in a joint Instagram post on Sunday, sharing a sweet photo in which Michelle cradled her burgeoning baby bump.

They captioned the post: ‘2025 will be special for us…’

Heart Radio presenter Mark, who rose to fame on ITVBe series TOWIE, is already an uncle to footballer brother Josh’s two children, as well as his sister Jess’s son, and has spoken out over the years about his desire to become a father one day.

The parents-to-be were spotted together on Sunday, December 22, alongside Mark’s former TOWIE co-star James Argent and his new girlfriend as they enjoyed a double date at the Ivy.

Friends of the couple admitted they took the baby reveal photo in November during a winter holiday in Mallorca, one of their favorite holiday destinations.

Michelle and Mark started telling their loved ones in the fall and decided to keep the secret as long as possible, according to the sun.

The source said: ‘Michelle and Mark went winter sunbathing at the beginning of November and decided to take the photograph there.

‘A friend took it on an empty beach when they knew no one would see them.

Michelle’s pregnancy comes a year after she starred in the Netflix drama Fool Me Once, which became one of the most-watched shows of all time.

Harlan Coben’s adaptation saw Michelle play military pilot Maya Stern and was an instant global hit, with over 98,200,200 views in its first 91 days.

She began her career on ITV’s Coronation Street, where she played Tina for six years before leaving the Cobbles in 2014.
