A teacher living with eczema has detailed how a simple facial mistake by a beauty therapist left her covered in unbearable burns and aggressive breakouts.

Brittany Ball, from Port Macquarie, has always had skin issues, but things went horribly wrong after she had a professional chemical peel in March 2023.

“The therapist didn’t prepare my skin properly and I got a third-degree burn on my face. It started to peel off and then got infected,” the 33-year-old told Daily Mail Australia.

“It was very hot, red and swollen for months.”

She was working as a barista at the time, so the hot steam from the coffee made things even worse, leaving her with irritated skin.

“It took five months to heal and it was incredibly painful, raw, itchy and embarrassing,” she explained.

“I also started getting pimples on my face. It completely destroyed my skin.”

She tried everything imaginable to treat her unsightly and sore skin, but nothing seemed to work.

“I was prescribed antibiotics which dried out my skin quite a bit and affected my face. The doctor also gave me a very thick balm, but it seemed to retain more heat, which made the burns, breakouts and eczema worse,” Brittany said.

She turned to natural products, which brought some relief to her face.

Brittany was at a friend’s house when she happened to stumble upon a MooGoo product in the shower.

With her skin far from recovered, she decided to try the Australian natural skincare brand’s $20.90 exfoliating powder.

“My skin was still flaking, so I used the exfoliating powder. It’s non-abrasive and my skin immediately felt clean and soft,” she said.

She began using the brand’s ultra-hydrating face cream, which costs $24.90, during her skin-care regimen, which she says transformed her complexion.

The chemical peel left her skin sore and flaky. It took six months to fully heal.

“I’ve been using this for about six months now. It’s completely cleared up my acne breakouts and even the scars from a chemical peel gone wrong have started to fade. It’s amazing,” Brittany said.

However, the cold weather has made her scalp psoriasis worse.

“The eczema is now under control, but I still have psoriasis and have had it for about six months,” she explained.

‘I use scalp cream, but it itches so much that it feels great to scratch it, but then it scabs over and it’s so hard to get rid of it.’

Brittany has shared her story for Psoriasis Awareness Month, as the condition is one of the top 10 most common skin disorders in the world and celebrities including Kim Kardashian and Cara Delevingne suffer from it.

According to charity Psoriasis Australia, around 1.6 million Australians live with psoriasis, a long-term inflammatory skin condition that causes the rapid build-up of skin cells that can crack and bleed.

There is no cure for psoriasis, but treatments can improve symptoms.
