Steve-O claimed he turned down the opportunity to appear on Bill Maher’s podcast because the host would not refrain from smoking marijuana during the interview.

The Jackass star, 49, who has been sober for almost 16 years, made the accusation about the comedian, 68, on a recent episode of his Wild ride! podcast.

‘I’m a clean and sober guy. It’s very important that I maintain my sobriety, I’m approaching 16,” Steve-O told listeners. “I’m about to turn 16. “There’s really nothing I value more than my sobriety.”

The Wimbledon native went on to explain that “there is nothing more” important to him than staying sober and recovering.

‘I found it a little disturbing when Bill Maher’s podcast came up and he smokes weed all the time while interviewing people. I told him I’d be happy to stay there, but while I’m at it, out of respect for my sobriety, could he please refrain from smoking marijuana? He said no and that’s a deal breaker,” Steve-O stated.

Maher noted that he was surprised that Maher didn’t give up marijuana in an interview, even though other podcast hosts always agreed to his request.

“Mike Tyson’s podcast is called ‘Hotboxin,'” Steve-O added. ‘Be real! I’ve been on all these prolific stoners’ shows and blowing pot smoke in my face wasn’t that big a deal for them, but for Bill Maher it was a deal breaker.

Maher smokes regularly during Club Random interviews and has expressed support for marijuana legalization for decades.

Previously, Maher had apparently respected the wishes of other guests, and footage of him telling Sheryl Crow that he would ‘never light up’ a joint in front of her has begun to resurface online.

In November 2023, Steve-O said that he finds even the smell of marijuana “a little annoying” on The Kyle and Jackie O Show.

“I don’t like breathing it into my lungs and, even worse, I love the way it smells,” he explained.

The entertainer said he always tried hard to avoid very hard drugs, but he has tried almost everything.

“I never tried heroin and if I tried crack, I’m pretty sure I did it wrong. Other than that, I did everything,” he said.

‘In any other illness, the best you can hope for is to get back to where you were before the illness. But for addicts, when we indulge we become a better version of ourselves than before.’

He said he was at peace with death because he had accomplished so much throughout his career as a daredevil stuntman.

‘The body is not a temple. “It is designed to be driven until the wheels fall off,” he added.
