This is the horrifying moment a man is mauled by a pair of dogs after they reportedly escaped into the street.

The shocking footage was filmed at 5pm on Sunday, when a man and a girl, aged 14, were attacked on Dagnam Crescent in Sheffield, South Yorkshire.

The two dogs, believed to be a mastiff and a cane corso, are believed to have escaped from a property on the street.

A local man saw the dogs and tied up one of them. As the man tried to untangle the leash from one of the dog’s legs, the other jumped forward.

The man backed away screaming, but the dog on the leash jumped to attack him, causing him to fall to the ground as the second dog joined in.

Two other people tried to intervene and one of them repeatedly hit the dogs.

The footage cut to show the man trying to flee, but fell to the ground when another person tried to push the dog away.

The 47-year-old victim suffered deep cuts and puncture wounds all over his body and was taken to hospital by ambulance, where he required surgery.

He currently remains in the hospital.

A second victim, 14 years old, suffered minor injuries while trying to intervene.

When the officers arrived, a dog was tied to a lamppost. The second dog was still loose and continued to pose a risk to the public.

Officers secured the mastiff in a yard, but were unable to safely contain it, and the decision was made to humanely destroy the dog at the scene.

Chief Inspector Emma Cheney said: “We continue to see dogs harming people in our communities and an increase in the demand for incident response and investigation being placed on our force.”

‘During yesterday’s incident, we sent several firearms and response officers to the scene for everyone’s safety.

The National Police Air Service was also present to monitor the loose dog in case it had wandered away from the scene.

‘Two people were arrested and an investigation into the circumstances will now take place.

‘The demand is not just for our force, but also for the NHS through ambulance responses and hospital treatment.

‘Please act. If you are a dog owner, think about your circumstances and what steps you can take to increase everyone’s safety.

‘You may think ‘this won’t happen to me’ but it can happen to anyone and you as the owner will be responsible for your pet’s actions.’
